I would like to predict that Obama's running mate will be Joe Biden.
I favored Joe Biden during one of the first democratic debates. During the initial debate, I trusted Biden's experience and his opinions. I think he's an excellent offset to Obama.
I'd also like to predict that Miracle Man might spend one of the holidays with me and my family.

Crazy
Before I recap Miami, I must break to talk about the text that I received from the ex on Friday night at 2 am. Unprovoked I receive the following:
I hate you. We could have been married. By the way I'm moving to Atlanta next week.
Me: WTF, WTF and WTF. I don't know why I engage in an argument via text, but at the time it seemed worth it.
I've concluded that I'm scared of him. He's irrational and not seeing reality.
In other news, Miracle Man is slowly but surely growing on me.

So I realized my voice just got an octave higher
when he called.
I've approached this dating thing somewhat haphazardly. My mind says, "SunFresh...get out there to meet somebody so that you can start the process of having a relationship so that you can get married within the next 3-5 years." But my heart has been on some, "Woman, give me a rest...I've been beaten this year." So that manifests itself in me hanging out with people, enjoying their company, but not feeling a guy pluck at my heart strings. And not really allowing myself to be open to that.
Well dag on it...the body never lies. When I talk to him, I've got a dumb ass smile on my face, my thoughts get jumbled, voice gets an octave higher. Two weeks ago, I was kind of like...ehhhh take it or leave. He's cute, but I'm not sure.
Well today, I found myself really looking forward to interaction with him. He offered to take me to the airport for my flight tomorrow. To me, this is about the nicest, most comforting gesture. I typically drive myself to the airport and hate breaking down in vulnerability to ask anybody...especially at inconvenient times. Plus, he lives on the West Side of town, I live on the east AND I've got to be at the airport at 8:00, so he's going to forfeit sleep for me.
Last night, our 4th date, was the first time that I kind of let my hair down. I wore the jeans, wore the hair curly, danced around and sang my heart out to 80s rock, 90s rap and 00s hip-hop. All I know is that I was having fun.
Before I left the house, I internally decided that I was open to a kiss; not a tongue soap opera kiss, but a quick and sweet union of the lips. So as the night came to a close, I was nervous. We embraced...a good tight one, the one where you're slightly on your toes, face nuzzled in his neck and arms holding on as if you're about to fall...like fall. Quick & sweet.
I haven't fallen, but I've definitely tripped.

Blog Flavor of the Week
Tango Mag. If you have not yet checked it out, do so! It's a webazine that has vast perspectives on being a woman in and out of love. The site is organized so that you can browse topics no matter what stage in or out of love you are. Single, Taken, Married, Starting Over (Divorced/Broken-Up)Some topics that sparked in my interest include:
Marrying Mr Wrong I’m sitting on our deck in the Hamptons an hour after everyone has left, realizing that my marriage needs to end. There have been too many red flags and it’s been too hard for too long. I’m drained. I’m sad. I’m lonely. My husband is just on the other side of the screen door, sleeping on the sofa we bought together at Ikea right after we bought the house. On his chest, our eleven-month-old daughter drools in her half-sleep.
The New Housewife According to CNN, a new breed of housewife is emerging: one who’s jobless, childless and home by choice.
Why am I still Single? She says the number of women who are romantically uninvolved is a result of one major factor: our culture tells us we don’t need relationships.
Black and Female Destined to be Single As a successful black woman in corporate America I had a very hard time finding black men who understood and weren’t intimidated by my busy lifestyle, weren’t already dating or married to white women and who weren’t gay
Single By Choice Though the “freemale” sounds like a creature found in a jar at Ripley’s Believe or Not!, she’s actually a single-by-choice woman who has chosen her freedom over a family.
I'm purposely leaving out the article entitled Anal S.ex for Beginners. What what in the butt? NO SIR.
Any comments, questions or concerns related to the italicized teasers? Are you a freemale? Are you a successful (defined in terms of a professional career) black woman experiencing the waohs of dating? Are you married and miserable? ...it seems like on the tango there is something for everyone.

Up the ante
So last night I had a date with Miracle Man. This was the 4th one, and so far so good. Earlier this week, I sent a text saying: You? Me? Bowling? I was getting bored with the dinner dates because really, that's how you inadvertantly gain weight (eating out...and eating for free). Drop some unique non-dinner date ideas.
Additionally, he asked if I ever wear jeans. Umm, of course. But our first 2 dates were after work and our one weekend date, I wore white capris. Plus, I think some of the best dates involve a bit of competition.
To up the ante a bit...
SunFresh: We'll have to come up with a bet. Loser has to????
Miracle Man: Ohhhh. Interesting. Any ideas? My mind is all over the place on that one.
SunFresh: Lol, PG13 and below. How about you think on it and we'll both write it down. At the end of the game, the winner presents the loser with the task. There is room for debate.
So due to piss poor AT&T service, I get his text requesting to push the date time back by 45 minutes. I get to the alley at 8 pm. There is another blog in itself waiting to happen based on an attractive female sitting at a bar alone. Let's just say that my two drinks were free and I got Miracle Man a free drink as well.
Without gorry details, first game he won by 1 point, second game I won by 1 point. Neither time did we break 100...so we're pretty equally yoked. But there was a considerable amount of trash talking & flirting. I'm warming up to him.
The last game, I looked at my left hand and said, "Left-hand, it is your day today. You are my dominant hand; however, right handed people taught me sports/activities; therefore I'm trained to do most things with the right hand. But you know what, left-hand? Tonight is your night. I'll let you bowl."
Ya girl bowled 2 strikes and a spare on the first three rounds. Needless to say, my secret weapon, my left-hand, came through and delivered a V for me. I won bowling and the bet....
He's cooking me dinner!

BOB
Ladies, get your mind out the gutter. Not rabbit, or bullet (although I do have a pressing question re: naughty bobs. perhaps I'll close this out with that).
Black Owned Business. More specifically, contractors or other BOBS that provide a service rather than a product. This morning while listening to the radio, the DJ said that she was DONE with BOB. Within the past month, she had needed about 5 projects done to keep her house from crumbling. She wanted to show support for black folks; but is now exasperated with the lack of quality service. Not showing up on time, attitude, exuberant prices ect had been her experience.
I haven't had to NEED major services. However, just this past weekend I was on the more affluent black side of town (SWATS if you will) and stopped at a Publix grocery store. I don't think I saw one non-black person, working the store or shopping in the store. It had to have been 9:15 pm. All I wanted was an adult beverage to bring to a gathering. Why did I wait in line for no shorter than 10 minutes? It's Saturday night for goodness sake. The line was backed up from checkout to people having to obstruct the walkway and trickle into the nearest isle. On a Saturday evening? You got two people working the register? Huh, there is no 10 items or less line? I've got to wait while Miss Jones n' dem unload their week's worth of groceries? That's called piss poor management.
I've never had this happen on the "other" side of town. Perhaps I need to write a letter, I think that's how mountains are moved. Perhaps it was a "one off" occurrence, but I'm not going to be so naive.
Do you patronize BOBs? How has your experience, generallly speaking, been?
*I'll save the naughty BOB question for another day*

I'm tired but I can't go to bed: Men's Gymnastics & Swimming
OMG - the men's team KILT it. KILT. One arm swinging. Nailing EVERY landing. Their performances gave me CHILLS.
Phelps. Manimal.

I love my moms...the past few texts as we watch the Olympics
Sunday
Moms: You should've been an Olympic gymnast
Moms: The cute China doll on the unparrallel bars. I can't believe she didn't hurt herself. And I would've been boo-hooing from pain and embarrassment!
Moms: Some of the American gymnasts need to work on their zits. Yeah - I said it!
Moms (re- Bush): What is wrong with that man?
Moms: How about that John Edwards? I bet he's a freak in bed.
Monday
Moms: For John Edwards, it was time for a change...LOL!
Me: It'd be more entertaining if they did synchronized diving naked.
Moms: ROFLMAO. Your brother doesn't find that funny. Lol
Me: This female commentator is ruthless!
Moms: I know! I wanna see what she looks like. I wanna see her dive.

Gaming Geeks (Y'all are kinda sexy)
Can I just walk up into a store and buy a Wii? Are they on back order?
I've got a 64 inch television, which was a parting gift from an ex (he left it with me). I don't put it to good use. Hell, I don't even use the HD properties on it. I figure I need to start having football watching gatherings and Wii gaming gatherings.
*9:30 Random Thought. So I'm watching the Olympics. Thinking how much more entertaining some of these lame "sports" synchronized diving would be if the participants were butt naked. Then...I thought how fun would it be to play Wii naked? lol, don't worry... I'm just kidding. Kind of. Okay, not really. I need a significant other.*

Double Standard: Enough Said.
BWHAHAHAHAH. That is soo disturbing in a funny type scary terrifying way.
Thanks to Babs...
This shall be a lazy Sunday. I'm trying to get the Babs Twist out of my system. Babs Twist...what is that you ask? It's her new signature drink, not to be confused with the slurricane; however, it has a similar effect. The drink even comes with its own dance: WHERE IS THE BREAD?
Last night was so much fun, new people, good people, attractive, intelligent people.
Highlights:
* I got serenaded by 4 gentlemen with a song apologizing for every 5 minute man experience I've ever encountered.
* I learned about the power of 3:
3 What you ask? Why a guy will have sex with a woman at least 3 times. Another question you might likely have...why is this written on a plate with 2 dollars? After somebody testafies...there is often times an offering. I think the men are collecting $$$ to build a new bedroom. (Bedroom Fund).
* Intern called bullshit on my 2008 vow of celibacy. It's only 4 more months, I can do it. And if a dude can't wait at LEAST 4 months...he ain't the one.
* Introduced strangers to the concept of a new drink. I shall not provide the title, there will be a party dedicated to the drink in the future.
* Laughed a LOT.

I got shot last night...
With a popped champaign bottle cork-screw. (I approached the dude and enrouraged him to apologize).
That was the lowlight of my night.
Late in the game (10:30) my homegirl calls me and is like, do you want to come out? I was ambivalent. Not too tired, so I was like what the hell.
Her good guy friend was in town with like 6 other dudes to celebrate a bachelor party. She had been the only chic...didn't want to be alone.
So I get dolled and roll out. I haven't been out in a while and I understand why I don't fancy the club scene.
1) I got shot. Yes, SHOT. With a popped champaign bottle cork-screw. (I approached the dude and encouraged him to apologize)
2) I was probably on the older side. 27....I prefer to be amongst the youngest in an establishment
3) The DJ lied. He said Jermaine Dupri n' Da Brat were there. I read early this week that Da Brat is in the slammer. I'd think Magic City would be the first place she goes to upon release.
4) I love dancing, but these lil' hos be on the dance floor and allow dudes to simulate sexual moves. Not a cute look. I felt like a mother wanting to school these young chics.
5) The group of dudes we were hanging out with got ridiculously drunk. Me no likey drunk men.

R.I.P. Bernie Mac
Say it ain't so. Bernie Mac Dies at 50, the Chicago Sun-Times is confirming.
Hopefully this is just another rumor.
Update: Not even an hour later, the link is no longer valid damn News networks need to perform due diligence before breaking stories.
Update #2: CNN and Fox are now reporting it.

Modern Dating Etiquette?
It is time for The SLUT Quiz!
Racist Dating
What men think about casual sex.
What men think of BBW (Big Beautiful Women).
What Men think About Lashes, Lenses and Breasts.

Edwards is a man. A typical man. :-( *screw face*
Is it wrong to say that he looked to attractive to be faithful?
And I truly believe that the media needs to stay out of people's private lives. Cheating occurs more often than not, but plenty of people go onto productively contribute to politics, business, etc.
Bachelorette party
Next weekend I fly down to Miami to partake in Bachelorette Party festivities. Any ideas?
Today I dragged my neighbor/coworker/friend (all one person) out and purchased the following:
Party City: Bachelorette Sash, Pink Lays, Truth or Dare Cards, Truth or Dare Dice, Ect
Insurrections (Sex Toy/Movie Shop): Penis shaped straws and lolipops. Ummm - I might go back and get a rabbit...for me. That thing was like WOAH. They had one on display that had batteries in it and I was like...wow, so many nuances to this thing, why EVER would a woman need a man if she had one of these? (Oh yeah, to change light bulbs and lift heavy things).
Target: White T-Shirt and Sharpee, so that people can write marriage advice on her shirt.
I have no clue how I got assigned the task of planning this...I live in ATL, EVERY other bridesmaid lives in DC. Sometimes I think I should've moved to that area, but when I was at school...which was about an hour and a half south of DC, I felt that the DC students (especially the women) had wayyy to much attitude for my liking. I'm used to smiling at people as I walk around - in ATL, I get smiles back, DC - people suck their teeth. I do LOVE that trash can music tho'. *Puts one leg, puts booty on the floor*
Then after I spent a handful on the party, I retired to Victoria Secret to buy 5 panties for $25. When all else fails in this world, VS knows how to put a smile on my face. Aligned with the back to school feel, they had various panties that mimicked school colors. So I bought some that I felt represented my Alma Mater to the fullest. I used to be on some, "why would I pay $25/5 when I could go to target and pay $7/5?" Ummm, cuz I found that not only are the VS panties sexy, but the material is so soft that I can barely feel them.
Shits and gigles: No Ho Zone
In your neighborhood do you have a No Ho Zone sign?
For you go getting willy nilly, "well maybe she should wear more clothes." Fall back, women get hollered at non-stop regardless of what they wear. Who knows what she was wearing.
Last night I had a conversation with Miracle Man. He frequents various websites too, so we have entertaining topics to talk about. One thing he saw yesterday was the whole over played, "why some black men date white women." The person who vlogged said that he approached a woman respectfully and she just WENT OFF. While I agree that it was unwarranted for her to lose her cool, black men don't understand how aggressive they are. Walking down the street, in the mall...anywhere there is constant holleration. Some respectful, some not so respectful...so perhaps he was the 5th guy that came at her that day and he received the pent up frustration.
Generally speaking, do you ever see non-black guys hollering the same way black men holler?
I'm watching Brook knows best (don't judge). This show is coated with all sorts of painful moments. Hogan is so absolutely lonely. I feel for him

Working Woman
I realized that I've said absolutely nothing about the essence of me...my education and career. So much of who I am today is a result of my desire to be professionally successful.
As a 16 year old, I knew that I wanted to be an accountant. At that young of an age, I had no idea what that meant, but I knew I wanted to be an accountant. I enrolled in an elective in high school which was entitled accounting, but it was truly was simply a class in bookkeeping. I finished this simulated small business program so far ahead of schedule that my teacher gave me a different random curriculum. Most notably, she nominated me to represent my high school in a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) accounting competition (DORK). The first was a regional contest on some random city on the peninsula of VA. I took the test and was like ehh okay, I fulfilled my responsibility. And Won 1st place. This took me to the state competition in Crystal City, VA. I was like ehhh okay, I fulfilled my responsibility. And I won 2nd place. This took me to the national competition in Chicago. lol, the story ends there...I didn't quite place in national. But it was an AWESOME opportunity and I got to go to Chicago for free.
So I enroll in my top rated undergrad university and from day 1 was focused on getting into the business program. The business program was uber-competitive, as it admitted approx 300 students per year. I was accepted, excelled academically, was elected to the student council. I was that one black woman in a top rated business program that was admirable. My professors loved me and ALWAYS looked out for me.
At one point I had a "woah is me," do I major in finance or accounting melt down. My professor, advised me to stick with accounting. Accounting is the language of business and that background/education is invaluable. Oh, did I mention that he was also the dean of a program in which you got a free masters in accounting and a job at one of the big 5 accounting firm? He asked where I wanted to be after graduation and I said the durty souf. As a result, as a 3rd year, I flew down to ATL and was wined and dined by the firm.
I interned, got the full-time job and was accepted into the Masters Program. I worked HARD and received recognition and praise for the hard work. Amidst of working, I passed the CPA exam sections the first time I took them. In my mind, there was no option other than to excel.
I put in 4 years at the firm. It was an invaluable experience. However, I lost who I was. I worked 60-70 hours a week...best example of how domineering the job was: One lazy Sunday I was about just about to handle business with the beau. Phone rang and the Manager was like can you come in. I was in my birthday suit for goodness sake, on a Sunday enjoying my weekend. That was a common occurrence. I could no longer truly nurture relationships and working with a PSYCHOBITCH boss drove me crazy. (5 other people quit under her, so it's not just me). So anywho, one day I returned a recruiter's phone call and told him, "If I'm not working at Accounting Firm, I'll work at ATL Fortune 500 Company."
He got me an interview and the knucklehead said, "Now SunFresh, these interviews are difficult. I interviewed a while ago and it was a no go." SunFresh: What's that got to do with me? Sho' Nuff, I got the job and JUST celebrated my 1 year anniversary.
I love my current job. I get to see how the business is run, but don't have the responsibility yet for making it run. Essentially I have a 3 year commitment in the department and when it's complete, I can interview anywhere in the finance/accounting department. That leaves things WIDE open.
I recently identified a woman that I truly admire. She's held various positions that I'm interested in...and on top of that, she's a married black mother of 2! Based on her role, I know she makes at least 6 figure and manages to balance her responsibilities as a mother with a demanding career. She is the prototype woman. I want her in my corner!
Whew. That was long. lol.
Disturbing
Earlier this week, I stopped by the mall before going home. (I need to forbid myself from making mall trips after cocktails...good for stores, bad for SunFresh's bank account).
As I'm on the way out, I feel a young man kind of following me and finally he grows balls to speak. I turn around and realize that he's confused me for a woman MUCH younger. I wasn't in work clothes, so I probably did look between 22-25. So anyway he's like excuse me, your pretty blahahahahaha. Do you mind if I sing to you?
Uhhh looks to the side like, did I hear him right? Before obtaining my approval, he grabs my hand and starts, "The very first time that I saw your brown eyes, your lips said hello and I said hi. I knew right there you were the ooonnnneee. But I was..."
He only got that far through Shai's song because I was completely shocked and flabbergasted that he'd stop a stranger in a public place and belt out a classic 90s tune, LOUDLY. I was embarrassed. I grabbed my hand tried to be polite, but told him that I really had to be on my way.
Random stupid shit happens more often than not.

Eating and stuff..
Seems to be a handful of blog fodder about weight. Weight and dating, eating, ect.
I'm a relatively small chic. Okay, let's re-word, I've got the BMI that health websites would say is appropriate for somebody my height. I'm approximately 5'4" and fluctuate between 123 and 127. And I'm going to say that maintaining this weight is not particularly fun.
First, I don't REALLY work out. I waste about $35/month on a club membership and this past summer I've been maybe a total of 5 times. I know a LOT more overweight people that are more active than me. (Note, this shall change, as one of my AGE 30 goals is to be in the best shape of my life). Last summer I was better about it, but with anxiety....I tend to turn very inward and life an inactive life.
So the way I manage my weight is not through physical activity. It's by skimping on the food. Daily routine:
Small coffee, enough milk/creame to turn my skin-color and one or two boiled eggs with salt. (I'm irritated that my boiled eggs cost more than the scrambled eggs, as it takes less effort to make them and less ingredients).
Lunch: Turkey, lettuce, tomatoe, cheese, on 7-grain. Mayo or some other type of condiment for flavor. Nope...no sides.
Dinner: (Don't laugh)...soup, omlette, or I'll put pasta with some type of green salsa.
Snacks: ? Huh?
I'm a total bore at the grocery store. I'm that person that picks up a product and scans the fat/caloric intake. If there are more than 150 calories or 3 grams of fat per serving, chances are it's not coming home with me. I don't snack, or if I do...it's Delmonte's SunFresh (hence the blog name) grapefruit. Oh did I mention, I'm cheap? Some folks will encourage a trip to whole-foods to get fruit, veggies and other healthy things. Ummm, so I can walk away with a WTF just happened at the register feeling? No sirrrr.
On weekends, I'll typically treat myself to some mexican or thai. "That time of the month," I'll obey my inner big girl and take down a 2-3 person serving of Singapor Noodles.
My body also self-regulates. On special occassion I'll eat sweets, and then kick myself as I ball over in pain as my body tries to break down the sugar. Ice-cream...let's just say that I'll need some alone time and some wind. Fried foods (although, french fries is a guilty pleasure)...not so much...my body can't digest it without making a LOT of noise and giving me slight pain. Red meat - ehhh see fried foods. And at times I overeat. I can outeat some men twice my size. But while they skip along, I'm having IBS attacks that bring tears to my eyes and knock me to my knees. So that leaves me with relatively healthy options.
I'm not promoting this by ANY means. I KNOW I have weight issues, and anxiety only causes me to stop eating.
But I say all that to say...for this regular weight chic...it comes with much anguish too. I could say that I'll start 'living' healthier...but I'm not quite ready to make a lifestyle change.
And for the record, if I did gain weight...it would impact how I feel about myself. I might have other self-esteem issues that cause me to gain weight, but gaining weight would only exacerbate the problem. (I realize this and I think it's sub-consciously why I deal with stress/anxiety by losing my apeitite).
As an adolescent, I was 'taught' a lesson that a lot of women are 'taught'. I lost 10-15 pounds and started getting attention and that feedback boosted my ego...which then boosted my confidence. That concept stuck with me.

Double Standards and Maybe Lying Ain't So Bad After Alll
Yes. There is a double standard. Follow me as I make an example out of straight porn. Porn to men what soap operas are to women...exaggerated wishful thinking ways of how life is supposed to go down.
So in porn, a woman is fucked. Ladies and gents - re-read that - she is fucked. Not made love to, not sexed. She might even yell out "fuck me!" She's screaming and hollering, most of the time it appears that she is in pain, making stupid ass faces, we never know if she really climaxes; however, we're well aware when he does cuz he likes to decorate her face with his man-power. There is nothing soft, gentle, caring about it.
Now as a woman, if porn represents a man's glorified idea of sex...WHY IN TARNATION would I want a man that played that role...the role of being fucked? Or even inflicting the fuck onto another man? So absolutely, there is a double-standard IMO. Women don't naturally play the role of the aggressor, the fuck-or, if you will.
And really...if you gave me a no-other-option-choice to be man-powered in the rear-end vs. kissing a woman...I'd choose kissing a woman. I'd consider myself otherwise "exploratory..." you can go near it, around it, tickle it - but not IN it. First, I've got an alternative entry that is much better equipped - it doesn't rip or tear...it expands to fit like a glove. Second - I try to avoid dirt. Why would somebody purposely step in a muddy puddle? Even if it dried up on a sunny day...next time it rains, it still a muddy puddle.
Then this other dialogue between Bad Guy and Aonmyous got me to thinking that people REALLY don't want to know the truth. I feel like the Joker for saying that...but it's kind of along the lines of...every body is calm when things go according to plan...even when the plan is disastrous.
In one corner we had Bad Guy (who is actually just Hurt/Jaded Guy) who had dreams of political office, and was dating his potential-Cindy McCain. So imagine his surprise when he found out that his potential-wifey had a past...she was in a relationship with a woman in college. (I used Cindy McCain b/c she too had a past...she stole from a non-for-profit that she was on the board to do drugs).
Other corner we have Anonymous who told a guy up front that she had a relationship with a woman in the past, but that was her past. Despite knowing her past, the guy continued seriously dating her...then after a considerable amount of time said it was a deal breaker.
Imagine if Bad/Hurt/Jaded Guy never found out the truth. Ehh, and let's say he wasn't a politician cuz EVERYthing comes to light when your in the public eye. Okay, so say he never found out...got married. Had 2.5 kids, a dog, a fish, a nice 401k, a loving wife. Uhhh...crickets...what's the problem in this situation? Say anonymous omitted the truth about the past. He wouldn't have found out. They would've had 2.5 kids, a dog, a fish and a nice 401k...a loving marriage. Uhhh...crickets....what's the problem in this situation?
What if I lied to my ex about kinda-bad thing I did, despite the fact that we were broken up? Uhhh...crickets...we would've been friendly n' cordial. What I did had no bearing on our future in the context of a committed relationship...b/c there was no future there. So why didn't I lie?
IMO, it's like when a guy asks how many men you've slept with in the past. What is he trying to get at? If I answer 4 instead of 3 am I a whore? If I said 100 before Jesus, and then 0 after I got saved...am I a whore? If I did 10 while I was young and stupid and then 2 over the most recent 3 year period...am I a whore? Really, a dude should just ask if she's been tested. That's the one thing that is relevant to his future. There are other cues to figure out if she's wifey material. If she's dancing on the bar counter with a mini-skirt...not so wifey. If she accidentally calls you Bob instead of Brad...not so wifey.

Paris for President
I don't care what folks say, I've always had a soft place in my heart for Miss Paris Hilton. This further validates my fancy for her sense of humor and "fuck 'em" attitude. Enjoy bitches!

Dear sub-set of black women that look at my
hair and say, "You don't need a relaxer!!!",
You don't know me or my habits. I refuse to sit up in a salon for 3-4 hours of my Saturday to get my hair pressed. I have a shitton of patience, but patience at the salon is not one of those things. In the summer, if I don't have a relaxer, the second I walk out the door and sweat a bit, my curl comes back with a vengence and my "straight" hair is a futile mess.
I recently went 6 months without a relaxer and 9/10 I had my hair in a pony tail. Because I didn't feel like dealing with it. I didn't feel like fighting the natural curl. I didn't feel like doing the wet n' go look every day because it dries out my hair. I didn't feel like fighting to comb it and then seeing an uncomfortable amount of hair in my comb. I didn't feel like paying $35-$40 dollars on a weekly basis (that's a gas tank) to get my hair done b/c within 2 days it would've looked like a curly mess.
I get my relaxers when I am exasperated with dealing with my own hair. I truly believe that you should know how to deal with what you've got...and by golly if it takes a relaxer for me to have patience with my own hair...don't tell me I don't need one.
Now that I have one, I've worn my hair down and straight for like 2 consistent weeks. It swings in the wind. People compliment me, "did you get your hair done?" I feel a bit more confident.
I appreciate your "care or concern" for my hair; however, perhaps you have a different level of patience in dealing with your own hair that doesn't stir up the desire for you to get a relaxer. Perhaps your grade of hair is different such that it doesn't curl at the sight of water. Whatever the deal is...you stay outta my head and I'll stay outta yours. But my response will be to you, "It's my hair and I have to deal with it, I'll continue to get relaxers 3 times a year...thanx."
Love,
SunFresh

Breast Cancer...
Nobody in my life has been affected by breast cancer. One of my favorite startlets was diagnosed...Christina Applegate. Send your thoughts up to all the women battling breast cancer!
Shock Value and am I too sensitive?
A woman in the military is more likely to be raped than killed in combat.
Pretty disgusting, huh?
Okay onto second thought...at the kickball games, I was comfortably sitting on my Mexican blanket. My kickball buddy left her ipod and speakers on my blanket, but went out to play as a substitute in another game. So there I am comfortable on my blanket, and music is playing near me.
Two of the teammates take notice and make a light joke...not really including me, but seeing my mini picnic scene and joke, "just need some fried chicken and watermelon."
I didn't know if I heard them correctly. I for sure heard something about watermelon. Would they have made that comment if I were white? Am I being too sensitive?
