Where do you get confidence from?

I thought that was a good question.

I'm having some what of a down/cynical day, so my perspective is rather bum.

Validation from other people. you can believe in yourself all you want but if nobody ever validates your accomplishments / achievements are you really great? Ehh, I guess you can continue to think so. If nobody fed your ego...do you have cause to have one? Wouldn't it starve?

I think of the which comes first chicken or egg argument. One could argue that confidence breeds greatness which is acknowledged and recognized by others.

Like if JayZ never received any praise, fame or Beyonce...would he still be claiming that he's best? Or is the fact that he has #1s, got "the hottest chick in the game wearing my chain," give him reason to make claims that he's the best...and truly believe it.

Lol, thinking of Kanye. Perhaps he has real confidence. He doesn't win an award and he is the hurt dog that bites/barks.

I wonder what I might say tomorrow. What say you today.

Hi SunFresh. Like your user name and blog.

The constant lack of validation for honest achievements can be crippling, and so can praise for being mediocre or worse.

I think they're two sides of the same coin, one rooted in jealousy of the achiever, and the other in either fear that the person praised one will exceed them, or that stupid trend of the past 20 years to boost a kid's self-esteem by lying that he's doing great or is great, when he's not.

I've always hated that chicken and the egg argument. God created the earth and made the humans and the animals. Why would the chicken just be an egg? LOL. The chicken was there too along with the zebras, snakes and such. LOL

Now that that's out the way. I think confidence comes from within. My mother put the concept in my head, but I had to truly believe it to acheive it. You can't wait for validation from others, because folks will always have differing opinions. The masses can confirm what you've already thought, and that helps, but there will always be somone who will tell you the contrary.

Many folks tell me I'm pretty. Though some have called me ugly. So the opinion that most matters is the way I feel about myself.
