Shock Value and am I too sensitive?

Okay onto second thought...at the kickball games, I was comfortably sitting on my Mexican blanket. My kickball buddy left her ipod and speakers on my blanket, but went out to play as a substitute in another game. So there I am comfortable on my blanket, and music is playing near me.

Two of the teammates take notice and make a light joke...not really including me, but seeing my mini picnic scene and joke, "just need some fried chicken and watermelon."

I didn't know if I heard them correctly. I for sure heard something about watermelon. Would they have made that comment if I were white? Am I being too sensitive?
